Silent Boat Rally
Saturday August 3, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Silent Boat Rally is for kayaks, canoes and paddle boards. Join us for a chance to paddle the beautiful winding Oxtongue river, explore small bays and meanders along the way. We will launch our crafts below Marsh's Falls and paddle down the Lower Oxtongue River to Lake of Bays and then return to the Falls. Participants will learn about the plants and animals that can be seen on the river. This is 8 kilometres of easy paddling in protected waters followed by a light lunch. This rally is a joint venture of the Lake of Bays Heritage Foundation and Lake of Bays Association. Cost $20 per person.

You can register online here or contact LBHF by email at registration@lakeofbaysheritage.ca

Please don't feed the turtles or any other wildlife!
A LOBA member was excited to see a snapping turtle at her dock last weekend until she realized the turtle was expecting to be fed! That means someone has been feeding this turtle, making it less wary of humans and filling it with food that is simply no good for it.

Surely it should go without saying:

DON'T FEED THE ANIMALS!!
Ontario Names Special Advisor on Flooding

On July 18, John Yakabuski, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, and Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, Minister of Long-Term Care, announced that Doug McNeil has been named Ontario's Special Advisor on flooding. Mr. McNeil will advise the province on ways to reduce the impacts of flooding and ensure communities can recover quickly. You can read more here .

In the wake of this Spring's flooding, LOBA sent a letter to Minister Yakabuski and Premier Ford asking to be part of any work on the Mukoka River Water Management Plan. We will be offering our assistance to Mr. McNeil.

The Muskoka Watershed Council has been writing a series of articles for Metroland newspapers on Watershed management.
