Happy Spring Port Cunnington neighbours!

The ice is now off the lake and we are all beginning to think about warm summer days.  For those returning after a long winter away, welcome back! Before you kick back and relax don’t forget to double check your opening-weekend checklist:
  • Renew all services before heading up
  • Be sure your insurance is up-to-date (cottage, boat, trailer)
  • Pack some cleaning supplies
  • Replace batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Make sure fire extinguishers are charged
  • Clean eaves troughs
  • Clear any large branches off your building
  • Inspect water lines

While we all enjoy some peaceful unplugged time, we also know how important it is for businesses and residents to have access to reliable and cost-effective internet services; something that not all Port Cunnington residents currently enjoy.

The Township of Lake of Bays is conducting a survey to collect data to help build a business case for improved internet service. The survey results will be shared with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to demonstrate the level of interest in bringing fibre optic high-speed internet to Lake of Bays.
If you are a Lake of Bays property owner, please fill out the survey by clicking the link below. The survey will take approximately five (5) minutes to complete.

Take The Survey Now!

To ensure that they have reached out to every Lake of Bays property owner, the Township will be distributing the survey using a variety of methods including an insert to be mailed with the June 2017 tax bill. However, as word of mouth is one of the most effective methods of communication, please encourage others to participate by sharing the survey link with your contacts to help spread the word.

YOUR INPUT IS NEEDED.
The proponent (David Smith) for Port Cunnington Marina planning application has provided the PCRA with a copy of their revised plan (left) to share with our members. It can also be found on our website: www.portcunnington.ca.

Along with the drawing, they also provided the table below, which summarizes the change in the number of parking and dock slips. David Smith believes the revisions represent meaningful changes to address concerns that were raised last summer.

Current Development Permit Present Application Proposed Revised Application

Approx. 30 Marina Parking Spaces 59 Marina Parking Spaces 47 Marina Parking Spaces
Approx. 6-8 Township Parking Spaces 13 Township Parking Spaces 20 Township Parking Spaces
34 Boat Slips 57 Boat Slips 44 Boat Slips

David Smith and his planner (Bob List) met with Township of Lake of Bays planner, Melissa Markham, recently to review the deliverables that will be included with their submission amendment.  Our understanding is that one of the deliverables will include more detailed engineering design and drawing of the parking area which they need to prepare.

He has also requested a meeting with the PCRA board and our planner, Marie Poirier, to get some feedback on the revisions.

To properly represent the interests and concerns of the Port Cunnington community, we need to know YOUR views (good, bad, indifferent) on this revised plan.

Please email your response/comments regarding the revisions to membership@portcunnington.ca.
In addition, the PCRA Board has retained Leo F. Longo (a Certified Specialist in Municipal Law: Local Government & Land Use Planning and Development with Aird and Berlis) and directed him to formally express our concerns to Mayor and Council regarding the Port Cunnington Marina application and Bigwin Drydock Area Development. The full letter has been posted to our website here.
