Langmaid's Island development proposal
As we have previously informed you, an application for a Plan of Subdivision containing 36 lots on the Langmaid's Island property was submitted to the District of Muskoka and Township of Lake of Bays. It has been deemed complete and is available for public review on the Township website - click here . 

In response to a call for comments, LOBA submitted this letter to the Township and District. There will be further opportunities for comment on this application and we will keep you informed regarding any public meetings. If you wish to comment, please direct your letters to  Melissa Halford  at the District and  Melissa Markham  at  the Township. 

While the island property is in the Township of Lake of Bays, the mainland access points are in the portion of South Portage Road that lies within the boundaries of Huntsville. Applications for two mainland access properties have been received by the Town of Huntsville and District of Muskoka. These have been deemed complete and are available to read here.

Early registration is now open for the 2018 Muskoka Summit on the Environment: Restoring our Relationship with the Natural World - www.muskokasummit.org. Register before April 30th to save $50 and be entered into a draw to win a Family Membership to the Royal Ontario Museum!

The Summit will aim to understand and promote a variety of perspectives to examine how to bring ethics into our relationship with the biosphere. It will explore the extent of our impacts on the planet and various views of our place in nature. A number of remarkable people will be presenting, including:

  • Meg Lowman from the California Academy of Sciences
  • John Smol from Queen's University
  • F. Stuart Chapin from the University of Alaska

MSE welcomes Dale Curd, from the CBC Television series Hello Goodbye, as the Summit Moderator and is pleased to have Paul Kennedy, from the CBC Radio show Ideas, return to moderate the concluding Panel Session.

Calcium Decline Workshop

The Friends of the Muskoka Watershed will be hosting a half-day workshop on April 11, 2018 in the afternoon. The workshop will take place in the Multi-purpose Room at the Baysville Public Library.
 
Come and hear about calcium decline in Muskoka and how wood ash can help solve this environmental problem. Registration will begin at 1:00 pm.
